a change is goin to come..
With just the last few years of a change in the winds of our founding predecesors in Jazz sadly passing & a new generation of musicians & singers influenced by those founding fathers of this beautiful music, we are carrying a heavy but brightly burning torch, a change is goin to come.Studying these luminous giants & really getting to know there lifes path, their stories, the sacrifices they made & how they changed Music, the bodies of work they left us; is a responsibilty to those of us creating new music. It is an enormous undertaking when you listen to what Jazz sounded like 50 years ago. I don't feel the music died as much as I do that it is resting, resting & breathing like Music should, like it did then. It was bigger than life & something that bright at a certain point may dim,but with enough heat, a spark & the breeze of a new wind to keep it burning will reignite a flame that may burn even hotter; Allthough it is necessary to understand the Historical Roots of where this music came from-to allow it to continue to
to grow from it's roots; it must be cared for like anything you want to grow, nurtured & taking responsibility to understand the mud that those roots grew in & the strong root rooted in human sacrifice, only gets stronger & branchs out.Something as precious as a Music this beautiful, that originated from such harsh painful circumstances, that when taken in, people resonate with it to the point where something comes alive deep in their soul & it touchs thier spirit; it is very clear to me that is why Jazz is known as a music that stirs the soul, because that is where it came from.
